Dean Odell co-author of newly up-dated text book

R. Dean Odell, an instructor in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math, is a co-author of “Metallurgy Fundamentals,” for which a seventh edition was published Nov. 2, 2023 by Goodheart-Willcox.

“Metallurgy Fundamentals” provides instruction and information on the basic properties, characteristics, and production of the major metal families. The text emphasizes the theoretical and practical aspects of metallurgy and explores the behavior of metals subjected to metallurgical processes. This new edition provides up-to-date metallurgy coverage of current topics, including additive manufacturing, powder metallurgy, noble and rare earth metal applications, sustainable practices, safety, and practical applications.

About the authors:
At Hudson Valley Community College, Dean Odell teaches courses in the School of STEM, utilizing his educational videos to enhance student learning. Dean graduated with an A.A.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Hudson Valley and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology from SUNY Polytechnic. He holds a Senior-Level GD&T certification from ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and a certificate of combination welding from the Modern Welding School in Schenectady. Dean also worked as a machinist apprentice and welder for several years and has experience in design and drafting gained as a mechanical designer for the U.S. Naval Nuclear Program.

J.C. Warner is principal scientist for Warner Consulting, Inc. Dr. Warner received a Ph.D. in Metallurgy from Iowa State University. He taught metallurgy and advanced statistical methods at Milwaukee School of Engineering for 11 years.

Daniel A. Brandt was director emeritus of the Rapid Prototyping Center and Professor Emeritus of the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
