Faculty and students from the of Dental Hygiene department participated in the Spring Games for Special Olympics held on May 5, 2024 at Shenendehowa High School. The event hosted more than 370 athletes from around the state competing in swimming, basketball, volleyball and gymnastics. Athletes also had the opportunity to be screened for health and flexibility through Fun Fitness Volunteers, as well as participate in Special Smiles Screenings for dental assessments. Each athlete who participated was given an intraoral screening and received oral self care and a protective mouth guard for their competition. Students provided the dental screenings under the supervision or faculty and supporting dentists who volunteered from the third and fourth district Dental Societies.
