Departmental Food Pantry Competition Winner Announced

 

The Departmental Food Pantry Competition is sponsored by the Student Life Committee and is designed to encourage contributions to the campus Food Pantry, as well as foster cooperation and community-building within departments.

Participating departments are recognized with certificates and mini-trophies. The department that collects the most food items is awarded possession of the large Giving Cup trophy for one year.

For 2011-2012, the Department of History, Philosophy and Social Sciences received the Giving Cup during a May 2 reception organized by the Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement. The department collected a record-breaking 2,241 food items!

The following departments also participated in the 2011-2012: Individual Studies/Liberal Arts Department, Criminal Justice/Forensic Science/Public Administration, School of Business, Dental Hygiene, English/Modern Languages/English as a Second Language, Human Services, Nursing, Teacher Preparation, and Math and Engineering Science.

The 10 departments collected an amazing 6,054 food items for the food pantry!

The Viking’s Cove Bookstore also was recognized for its collection of non-perishable food items.
