Donations Sought for Earth Day Celebration

The Sustainability Committee is seeking donations of clear plastic one-liter soda bottles (cleaned and including caps) for a children’s terrarium-making project planned for the Earth Day celebration on Wednesday, Apr. 20. Smaller sized bottles also are useful.

Seeds, bulbs and small rooted plants are needed for the garden exchange. All must be non-invasive species, preferably natives, and seeds must be no more than one-year old.

Please make bottle donations in advance; garden donations can be brought in on the day of the event or in advance. Contact Maxine Ortiz at extension 7787 or m.ortiz@hvcc.edu if you can help out.

All are invited to Earth Day activities, taking place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Siek Campus Center, Quad and Bulmer Telecommunications Center. There is something for everyone with acoustic guitar music by Caleb Bauscher, garden soil testing, solar oven cooking demonstrations, tours of the college’s co-generation plant, eco-friendly vendors, children’s activities and more.
