Don’t Forget to Participate in Student Senate Activities

Happy Monday, Vikings!

Hopefully you are getting familiar with your teachers, classmates and the new rhythm of the semester. After a few mistakes, I think I finally know what’s due when in my classes. 😉

This week the Student Senate and I are asking you all to VOTE online anytime between 8 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 and 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17 in a special election for Student Trustee. The Student Trustee represents students and their interests on the college’s Board of Trustees. Usually, this election is held in the spring, but because last semester was cut short, we deferred it to this week. You can view the candidates and vote at www.hvcc.edu/vote.

Also, today at 3 p.m. is the first Student Senate Meeting. All are welcome to attend and anyone interested in running for a senate position or for freshman class president is encouraged to show up. Meetings will be held via Zoom: Join the Zoom meeting ID: 965 0773 5760.

As a reminder, Student Senate and Freshman Class President Elections are coming up on Oct. 7 and Oct. 8. Holding an elected office is a great way to stay connected, get involved and have a say in issues that affect you and your campus community. To sign up, contact the student activities office at (518) 629-7348 or studentactivities@hvcc.edu.

There is another way to participate in the campus community that I want to mention. It offers students the opportunity to gain experience and expertise on certain topics while growing their interpersonal, teamwork and administrative skills, and they also have input as to how the college is run without running for office. Curious yet? Committee membership! There are many committees on campus that would like to have students represented. For example, the Ethics and Conduct Committee and the Student Life Committee. Feel free to contact me to discuss further at r-harrison4@hvcc.edu.

The Student Senate and I hope you are enjoying the goodies and activities we put together for you this semester! This week, we are offering:

  • Cookie Giveaway
  • Subway Vouchers Giveaway
  • Stewart’s Vouchers Giveaway
  • Wednesday Night Trivia (7 p.m.) – a weekly event where everyone gets a prize and the top three winners receive $10-50 gift cards

For more fun and engagement, look out for future announcements on the Student Activities Calendar and our Instagram page @vikingsofthevalley.

As always, all my best to you and don’t hesitate to contact me with any concerns, suggestions or to just say, “Hi” at r-harrison4@hvcc.edu.

Reese
