The Dwight Marvin Library welcomes students and faculty to nominate student research papers for consideration for the annual Dr. Joseph J. Bulmer Award for Excellence in Library Research.
Criteria — a winning paper will meet all of the following:
- Grade of A
- Extensive bibliography with minimum of five sources. Papers having fewer than five sources are not eligible. More quality sources are preferred.
- Evidence of initiative, persistence, and ingenuity in identifying sources. Papers with a variety of sources are ranked more highly. For example, a paper including books, academic journals, newspapers and credible websites will rank more highly than a paper using mainly websites.
- Evidence of critical thinking in evaluating sources for credibility and appropriateness. Depending on the assignment and subject matter, seminal works, core journals and critical sources are preferred.
Authentic academic work, i.e., free of plagiarism (papers may be reviewed using turnitin.com or similar software).

Please note: To align with student honors and awards made during the commencement season, nominations now will be based on calendar, rather than academic, year. Nominations for the 2023 award will be accepted for any semester during calendar year 2022 (Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall).
Deadline is February 1, 2023
