Dr. Rugenstein presents poster at American Historical Association’s annual conference

Dr. Ernest Rugenstein, an adjunct faculty member in the Department of History, Philosophy and Social Sciences, represented Hudson Valley Community College at the American Historical Association’s 132nd conference held Jan. 4-7, 2018 in Washington, D.C. and participated in one of the poster presentations.

His poster, entitled Akwesasne, A Nation Divided by more than the St. Lawrence River, was with others in the presentation area just outside the exhibit hall, a high traffic area for large numbers of people passing by between sessions. It was a time of listening, learning and networking. The presentation time allowed poster creators an opportunity to explain their research and the aspects of the poster that isn’t in “black and white,” as well as interact with other presenters and conference participants.

“The exhibit process also brings those with expertise together that conduct similar research on various aspects of the poster topic. I had such an experience during my presentation when a fellow professor spoke about his experiences at Akwesasne while teaching at SUNY Plattsburgh. This type of interaction gives a richness to the overall involvement during this time and opens up new avenues of research,” Rugenstein said.

The poster currently is exhibited on the first floor of the Marvin Library Faculty Office Wing.
