Driver Education, Defensive Driving courses at TEC-SMART this summer

 

Hudson Valley Community College will offer a 48-session driver education course at its TEC-SMART facility in Malta this summer.

The course, which includes 24 hours of classroom instruction and 24 hours of on-the-road instruction, begins Monday, July 1. Classroom sessions at TEC-SMART will run from 10:30 to noon and drive sessions will be held throughout the week. Students must be 16 years of age before the course begins.

Two other driving-related courses will be held at TEC-SMART. A five-hour pre-licensing course will be held Tuesday, June 18 and Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 5 to 10 p.m. Completion of the course is required for any person seeking to take a Department of Motor Vehicles road test.

The college also will offer a Defensive Driving course from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Aug. 5 and 7. Those who successfully complete the course can receive a 10 percent reduction in motor vehicle liability and collision insurance premiums for a three-year period. Drivers who have violation points on their record will receive a four-point reduction.

All courses will be taught by certified instructors from Bell’s Driving School.
