Dwight Marvin Library recognizes American Archives Month

In recognition of Archives Month, Dwight Marvin Library released its archives subject guide. The guide includes recent acquisitions (the 2013-14 Student Handbook) juxtiposed with historic documents (the 1958 Student Handbook), invitation to identify subjects in archival photographs, and a link to the HVCC New York Heritage Digital Collection. John Staerker, technical assistant, prepared the guide.

The Digital Heritage Collection features more than 60 photographs of early presidents and founding trustees, original buildings, the commencement program for the Class of 1955, and other rarely seen images. Dwight Marvin Library is one of the original participants of the digital heritage project supported by its membership in the NY3Rs Capital District Library Council. Plans to add to the digital collection are underway.

In addition, two pews salvaged from the Hyman Rosenblum Administration Building at the corner of Vandenburgh and Morrison Avenue are now featured prominently on the first floor of the Marvin Library Learning Commons. A description of the pews’ original location in the former Immaculate Conception Seminary and the context for their use in the library is posted to promote the knowledge of the College’s history and its relationship with the community.

Other photographs, paintings, and architectural renderings from the Archives Collection are on permanent display within the Marvin Library Learning Commons. Representative works from the College Authors and Artists collection are also on permanent display. Employees are encouraged to submit titles of additional authored or created works not yet identified for the collection.
