Elementary and Middle School Career Exploration invites 3rd and 4th graders to campus!

Sixty (60) 3rd and 4th graders from the North Albany Academy Elementary School will be on campus Friday, April 12 to visit with faculty members and students of the Teacher Preparation Department and Physical Education Department. The visit is part of the Elementary and Middle School Career Exploration Project, a new K-12 initiative under the Enrollment Management and Student Development (EMSD) division, and celebrates National Week of the Young Child.

While on campus the students will enjoy an artistic painting experience using a variety of paint mediums and surfaces, and block challenges to allow students to engage, manipulate and work collaboratively with their peers and our students, according to Toni Howard, department chair for the Teacher Preparation Department. The students also will enjoy a creative body movement exploration through music that enhances balance, locomotor coordination and physical wellness, according to Colleen Ferris, department chairperson of the Physical Education Department.

North Albany Academy Principal Lesley Buff said her students are excited to visit a college campus, and the project fits in with the school district’s mission. “We believe that it’s never to early to start preparing our students for college and careers,” Bluff said. “Within our classrooms, even our kindergarten classes, we focus on success skills like organization, collaboration, inquiry, reading and writing. We also teach our students about growth mindset and create a college-going culture. The visit to Hudson Valley is a great opportunity for our children”
