Sheila Curran Bernard, associate professor, Department of History and Documentary Studies Program, at the University at Albany, speaks Wednesday, March 25, at noon in the BTC Auditorium in the final scheduled Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle program for the semester. Professor Bernard presents “Documentary Storytelling and Slavery By Another Name: A Case Study”.
Professor Bernard is known for her award-winning writing for film and is the recipient of an Emmy Award as well as a Peabody Award. After a national search, Professor Bernard was selected to adapt Douglas Blackmon’s 400-page, Pulitzer Prize-winning book Slavery by Another Name for the screen. The completed film was selected for the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.
