EOC culinary students celebrate with mini Chowderfest

Culinary Arts program students at the Capital District Educational Opportunity Center hosted a “mini” Chowderfest on Friday to celebrate the two prizes — second place for the Judges’ Choice category and third place for the People’s Choice category — they earned in Troy’s eighth annual Chowderfest held Oct. 12.

In their first year entering the competition, EOC students Warren Burras, Matthew Maloney and Mary Narron made a clam, corn, andouille sausage chowder served with a homemade honey cheddar biscuit stick. Using locally grown produce was one of the requirements of this year’s Chowderfest, and the EOC team used fresh corn from Hank’s Farm stand in Wynantskill that was grown at Hand Melon Farm in Greenwich.

The team, led by professor Joe Forget and assisted by EOC receptionist Erica Jackson and recruiter Millie Delgado, sold 30 gallons of chowder throughout the day. Professor Forget said, “I am so proud of our students, and we were so glad to be a part of the community that we have served for the past 48 years at the EOC.”
