Farley, Beaudry to Speak at Veterans’ Summit on Dec. 5

Two college faculty/staff members will be part of the quarterly Veterans’ Summit at the New York State Industries for the Disabled, Inc., Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 9:30 am – noon at its office at 11 Columbia Circle Drive, Albany. Summit participants represent an array of organizations, including state government agencies, not-for-profits, veteran service organizations, Wounded Warriors, and rehabilitation organizations, including NYSID members.

Joining the summit from the college will be:

  • Carrie Farley, founding member of the Armed Forces Club at Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC). The club allows veterans the opportunity to be together, mentor each other on campus and to give them a voice. Farley was instrumental in the opening of an Armed Forces Study Room on campus. She is the proud mother of Staff Sergeant Derek Farley, who was killed in action in Afghanistan. Farley is president of the American Gold Star Mothers, Albany Chapter.
  • Dan Beaudry, writing instructor at Hudson Valley, where he is co-chair of the Academic Senate’s Committee on Military and Veterans Affairs and a faculty member of the Armed Forces Club. He also teaches in the English Department at The College of Saint Rose. As part of his work with veterans, Beaudry has presented numerous seminars on assisting student veterans, and has participated in conferences on military and veterans issues at Russell Sage College and the U.S. Air Force Academy.

NYSID’s intent for the Veterans’ Summit Meeting since its inception in 2009 is to provide a quarterly in-person clearinghouse for individuals and organizations supporting veterans with disabilities in New York State. NYSID hopes to foster collaboration and networking as they identify jobs for veterans with disabilities, particularly as the number of returning veterans with disabilities increases.
