Finger Lakes Guitar Quartet presents virtual concert on April 8 at noon

 

The Finger Lakes Guitar Quartet – featuring Joel Brown, Brett Grigsby, Sten Isachsen and Paul Quigley – will draw from its eclectic repertoire that spans five centuries for a virtual concert at noon on Thursday, April 8. The Finger Lakes Guitar Quartet has performed at the Eastman School of Music, Ithaca College Guitar Festival, Keuka College, Utica College, Sandisfield Arts Center in the Berkshires, and the Cleveland Guitar Society and Marietta College in Ohio.

Each FLGQ member is an accomplished soloist with many performance and recording credits. All four also are teachers.

Joel Brown, a senior-artist-in-residence at Skidmore College, has performed across the country and throughout the world as a solo artist and chamber musician, often with renowned vocalists, soprano Dawn Upshaw and mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade. The versatile artist also has performed with jazz legend Dave Brubeck, and appears regularly as a member of Chris Brubeck’s Triple Play that also features harmonica virtuoso Peter “Madcat” Ruth. Brett Grigsby has performed solo recitals at Carnegie Hall, 92nd St. Y, St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Steinway Hall, all in New York City, and at the Domain Forget International Festival in Charlevoix, Canada. Grigsby is a member of the music faculty at Skidmore College, in addition to teaching one-on-one and coaching several guitar ensembles. Sten Isachsen directs the undergraduate Music Audio Technology and Guitar Performance programs at SUNY Schenectady, and is a member of the Musicians of Ma’alwyck, a much-in-demand string trio. Aside from playing classical guitar, Isachsen performs regularly on electric and steel string guitars. Paul Quigley has performed with the Glens Falls Symphony, the College of Saint Rose Camerata, and at the Troy Music Hall, Bowdoin College Summer Chamber Music Festival, Shakespeare & Company, and at the Oberwald Concert Series in Switzerland.He is currently on the faculty of SUNY Schenectady and SUNY Adirondack, where he teaches classical and electric guitar.
