Former trustee’s book added to Dwight Marvin Library collection

Out of the Clay: Molding a New Generation of Passionate Public Leaders, is a new book written by William F. O’Connor, who served two terms as chairman of the college’s Board of Trustees in the 1980s and 1990s. O’Connor is also a former President of the Board of Education in Averill Park. One of the book’s chapters is devoted to the author’s relationship with former college President Joseph Bulmer and the “accreditation crisis of the 1980s”.

Book jacket notes provide this description:

While it only takes one individual to make a difference, the greatest leaders are those who inspire that difference in others, creating a ripple effect that spreads throughout the organization and beyond. This is the transformational leader, the one who guides others to recognize and achieve their utmost potential. With over forty-five years committed to public service, William F. O’Connor III shares the five attributes he’s encountered throughout his career that define such leaders – respect, vision, courage, intuition, [and] credibility.

One copy is available in the circulating collection for borrowing.  A second copy is now included in the permanent College Authors and Artists Collection, which is part of the college archives.
