On Saturday, March 29, a group of Hudson Valley students and staff traveled to Schoharie to do some much-need clean up. Organized by Campus Chaplain Cylon George and alumnus Doug Stinson ’11, the group partnered with the Schoharie Area Long Term (SALT) organization, helping with ongoing restoration efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee in 2011.
As Volunteer Coordinator for SALT, Stinson has dedicated the past 31 months rebuilding the town he calls home. Drawing on his Hudson Valley education and expertise in emergency medical services, Doug has been able to provide hands-on assistance as he motivates his neighbors and other concerned citizens to continue rebuilding their town. Though it has been nearly three years since these storms caused unspeakable flooding and destruction, things are getting better; however there is still much work to be done.
