Foundation Friday: grant funds technical upgrades in the LAC

The Foundation has received a $27,000 grant from the Hudson River Bank & Trust Foundation to purchase tablets and laptops for the Learning Assistance Center.

The Learning Assistance Center — known on campus as the LAC — is located on the lower level of the Marvin Library Learning Commons, and provides instructional support as needed to students.

Dr. David Clickner, interim assistant to the vice president for Academic Affairs, said, “The equipment will allow faculty and staff to support students using a combination of face-to-face, paper and pencil support and, now, computer and internet-based support using the tablets purchased with grant funds. Further, tablets will increase faculty members’ mobility when working with students on an internet or computer-based application. No longer tied to a desktop computer, they can use the tablet and work right beside the student as he or she works.”

This gift will enhance the efforts of the dedicated faculty and increase the numbers of students served.

The Hudson River Bank & Trust Foundation provides funding to support charitable causes and community development in Columbia County and surrounding areas. It concentrates its grant-making in the following areas: health care, community development, education and youth, arts and culture, historic preservation, and environmental protection.
