Four Students Honored With SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence

 

Four members of the Hudson Valley Community College student body were named as recipients of the State University of New York Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.

The recipients are:  Shauna Anderson of Greenville; Charles Parslow of Fonda; James Greg of Clifton Park and Bryan Vandenburgh of Valatie.

A member of the academic honor society, Phi Theta Kappa, Shauna Anderson of Greenville also has been involved in the Foreign Language and Culture Club and has had several short stories published in the college’s literary magazine, Threads.  Anderson excels academically in the college’s rigorous Liberal Arts and Science Honors Program and was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. She also teaches American Sign Language to adults and children at her local library.

An All-Conference and All-Region baseball player for the college, Charles Parslow of Fonda is a peer tutor in the college’s Learning Assistance Center and has maintained a perfect grade point average in his Engineering Science studies.  Parslow also was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

James Greg of Clifton Park is a member of the academic honor society Phi Theta Kappa and has been named to the President’s List for three consecutive semesters.  He is vice president of the college’s Student Senate and also was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.  Greg volunteers weekly with SAFE, which helps students with disabilities play sports. He also helped establish a charitable organization in memory of local Shaker and Shenendehowa students who were killed in a car accident.

A United States Marine Corps veteran, Bryan Vandenburgh of Valatie is vice president for membership for the college’s chapter of the academic honor society Phi Theta Kappa. He was named to the President’s List for three consecutive semesters and he is serving his community as a member of his local volunteer fire department. Vandenburgh also was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

All four Hudson Valley students will be honored along with other recipients from across the State University system on April 2 at a ceremony at the Empire State Plaza Convention Center in Albany.

The Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence was created 17 years ago to recognize students who have best demonstrated, and been recognized for, the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts or career achievement.
