Free Food Fridays on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30

The Capital District YMCA and Troy YMCA have partnered with the USDA’s Farmers to Families program to offer Free Food Fridays on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30 when 2,000+ free food boxes will be distributed.

Pick-up times and locations on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30:

  • 9 to 11 a.m. at the Troy YMCA (2500 21st St.)
  • Noon to 2 p.m. at Rensselaer’s Riverfront Park
  • 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Greene County YMCA (Hope Plaza West, Rt. 81, Coxsackie)
  • 5 to 7 p.m. at Albany County Plaza (260 South Pearl St.)

Each box weighs 30-40 pounds and contains assorted fresh vegetables and fruits; meat and eggs (pre-cooked protein/meat, chicken and eggs), and dairy, including cheese, butter, cream cheese and one (1) gallon or equivalent of milk.

The campus learned of this program from Ivey Green, a senior Human Services student who is doing a field experience at an Albany charter school, according to Maryanne Pepe, chair of the Human Services and Chemical Dependency Counseling Department. She said Ivey, a Troy resident, is very active in her local community and wanted to share this information.

The College Food Pantry also is available to assist students. Student Activities, with assistance from the College Foundation, continues to offer Hannaford supermarket e-gift cards.

All students are welcome to visit the Food Pantry webpage for more information or to request an e-gift card.
