Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to the area, you’ve might wonder what the interior of Oakwood Cemetery’s Garden Earl Chapel — Troy’s “Castle on the Hill” — looks like. Here’s your chance to find out!
The Friends of Oakwood Cemetery will offer guided of the Gardner Earl Chapel every Tuesday in August — the 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th — at 1 and 2 p.m. for just $8. per person. (Children under 12 are free.) Registration is not necessary, but please arrive 10 minutes before starting time and look for the “open” flag. (Groups of eight or more should call Heidi in advance at (518) 221-7941).
A National Historic Landmark, the chapel boasts Tiffany windows, marble mosaics and unique hidden treasures. You’ll understand why it’s a popular venue for intimate weddings and special events, and you’ll learn about the young man who inspired this spectacular building.
The Friends of Oakwood is a non-profit volunteer group working to support the preservation and maintenance of the non-sectarian chapel and grounds of this still-active historic, 19th century cemetery.
