University Libraries to Celebrate Open Access Week

Jerry Sheehan of the White House OSTP to be Keynote Speaker

Jerry Sheehan of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) will be the keynote speaker at the University Libraries’ celebration of Open Access Week. The event will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., in the Science Library’s Patricia and J. Spencer Standish Board Room and is free and open to the public. Lunch will be served with support provided by the University Auxiliary Services. Please RSVP if you plan to attend.

Open Access Week is an annual global event during which members of the academic and research communities come together to discuss how removing existing barriers to accessing scholarly research could transform the way research and scientific inquiry is conducted. In 2016, Open Access Week runs from October 24 to October 30.

Mr. Sheehan, the OSTP’s Assistant Director of Scientific Data and Information, will address the implementation of the public access policy for data from all federally grant-funded research projects. Other topics will include: Open Educational Resources (OERs), Scholars Archive, UAlbany’s open access digital repository, and an update on SUNY-wide open access initiatives.
