The Friends of Oakwood, a non-profit, volunteer organizations, hosts a full moon tour with Heidi Klinowski from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9. The original date, Aug. 7, was cancelled due to rain.
Attendees should register at 1-800-556-6273 and pay upon arrival with cash or check ($15 per person) using the Oakwood Avenue entrance to the cemetery.
The tour includes the Gardner Earl Chapel to take advantage of the western sun on the Tiffany windows, and visits to grave sites of several notable, sometimes infamous, 19th century Troy citizens. Participants learn about the financier who left his bride in the church, the disgruntled housewife, the depressed brewer, the factory fire that rivaled the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, the Civil War general who never lost a battle, and the man with two wives. Bring a camera to capture sunset photos at the overlook.
