Generous HVCC folks

Two weeks ago I posted a request for some hand-me-down boots for a teenager in my neighborhood. It just broke my heart when I saw his work boots with the soles peeling off…

This kid came around during the summer, knocking on doors and asking for work. How many kids do that these days? As the oldest of six kids whose parents both work, he’s taking on a big responsibility to help his family. And, he’s a really nice, polite kid.

The very day after I posted the request, a generous HVCC colleague e-mailed me and asked where to bring the boots. The next day the donor brought a pair of brand new boots. Again, I was nearly brought to tears. Someone also gave a small cash donation to the boy’s family.

Thank you to the generous campus community. Big hearts make great things happen!
