Yellow signs mark blue bins in six places on campus that are ready to accept any and all books, especially textbooks, but NOT library books. Please return library books directly to the library.
New or gently used children’s books will be given for free at community sites, including places like Family Court. Other books will be sold to support the program. The 2019 goal is to give 50,000 books to Albany kids.
“Scientific literature proves that the more books are in the child’s home, the better they will do in terms of early literacy and eventually school achievement,” said Stephen K. deWaal Malefyt, M.D., associate professor of pediatrics, Albany Medical Center Pediatric Group.
For more information, or to donate directly, go to https://www.theredbookshelf.org, or email Crystal at c.heshmat@hvcc.edu .
Please don’t put books in the regular recycling bins, since they become too heavy.
Thank you.
