Courageous Learning: Finding a New Path through Higher Education, written by John Ebersole, president of Excelsior College, with William Patrick, is a comprehensive overview of adult education in America. It was written to inspire and guide adult and non-traditional students to complete a post-secondary degree.
The book profiles five non-profits that serve the non-traditional learner: Excelsior College, Empire State College, Western Governors University, Thomas Edison State College and Charter Oak State College. It also includes a chapter, “How Do You Find the Right Path,” which is intended to help adults considering college by addressing a variety of questions and defining terms such as “credit by exam” and “credit by assessment.”
A book launch event with the authors is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Book House in Stuyvesant Plaza.
