Colleges and universities in the Capital Region are getting more than $143 million in the latest round of federal pandemic relief funding.

Nearly 3,500 public and private colleges and universities nationwide are getting $36 billion as part of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan relief package signed in March.

At least half of the funding each institution receives must go toward emergency cash assistance grants for students who need it.

The funding comes after a year of pandemic-induced financial strain, forcing institutions to take measures for their own long-term financial sustainability. UAlbany recently said it has $8 million to go to reach a budget reduction target of $33 million. And The College of Saint Rose made cuts last year to combat a projected budget deficit of $15.8 million.

Here is a breakdown of how much money each Capital Region institution is getting from the latest round of relief:

Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, $2,374,390
Albany Law School, $324,909
Albany Medical College, $548,501
College of Saint Rose, $9,324,647
