Sandra Hutchison, an adjunct instructor who teaches composition at HVCC, is using a 99-cent promotion for her debut novel to support hunger relief.
The Awful Mess: A Love Story, which she describes as “a sunny take on The Scarlet Letter set in contemporary New Hampshire,” will be available as a Kindle download for 99 cents throughout the month of September, and any net earnings will be donated to Feeding America. After September, 10 percent of net earnings will be donated.
She encourages anyone who gets the book and enjoys it to consider donating non-perishable food or funds to their local food pantry (for instance, HVCC’s own food pantry) or to Feeding America (possibly via her virtual campaign page at http://help.feedingamerica.org/goto/awfulmess).
Hutchison, who worked in publishing and advertising for 17 years before she began teaching at HVCC, has a master’s degree in fiction writing from the University of New Hampshire. Her short one-act play Nude with Bearded Irises, is set to be performed in Sand Lake as part of the Circle Theater Players’ One Act Play Festival at the Sand Lake Center for the Arts October 17-20.
The Awful Mess: A Love Story is available exclusively at Amazon. A PG-13 version is also available there for a limited time. Both books currently have over four stars from Amazon reviewers. Clicking on the book cover lets buyers sample the early chapters of the book for free.
There is no paper edition of the book at this time, but free Kindle software available from Amazon or through various devices’ app stores allows readers to download and read Kindle books on just about any device, including most personal computers, tablets, and smart phones. (However, a paperback edition is expected in late October.)
You may see notices about a free promotion the author had planned for Sept. 2-6. This week she ran into an issue with Kindle Select that has forced her to downsize that to a 99-cent promotion for September. If you would like to be notified via email about any future free promotions or the paperback edition, you are invited to subscribe to book updates at her web site: Sheer Hubris Press.
