The HVCC Book Club will meet Wednesday, Sept. 19 fron noon to 12:50 in the Dwight Marvin Library’s new Multipurpose Room. The MPR is now located on the second floor of the library. We will start the year with a discussion of Zeitoun by Dave Eggers.
Zeitoun is the true story of a family caught between the war on terror and Hurricane Katrina. Zeitoun, a middle-aged Syrian-American father and owner of a successful painting and contracting firm, decides to stay and watch over his business while his wife Kathy evacuates with their four young children. Zeitoun is mistaken for a terrorist and subjected to a series of humiliations, locked in a cage, then a prison, all the while without being charged with anything or even being allowed to make a phone call to his wife.
To read the NY Times review of Zeitoun go to http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/16/books/review/Egan-t.html?pagewanted=all.
The HVCC Book Club welcomes students, staff, faculty and community members. Please join us and feel free to bring your lunch!
To CHRONICLE STAFF:
Could you run some version of this weekly until Sept. 19? Thanks!
