SANBORN, N.Y. — The Hudson Valley Community College women’s volleyball season had its historic season come to a close in the NJCAA Region 3 championships semifinal round with a straight set loss to No. 2 Finger Lakes on Saturday afternoon at Niagara Community College.

As a team, the Vikings accumulated 14 kills, 33 digs, and 11 assists against a top-tiered Finger Lakes program. Abbigail Newell, of South Glens Falls, led the offensive attack with six kills in 25 attack attempts and added eight digs. Regina Ware-Salazar, of Selkirk, tallied nine assists and added four digs, three kills, and one service ace.

The volleyball team hit a lot of milestones this season as they qualified for the NJCAA Region 3 championships for the first time since 2008 and only the second time making the final championship weekend in more than 25+ seasons.

The program also finished with a winning record of 13-12 in Therese DeCan’s second season as head coach and it was the first time volleyball finished a season above .500 since 2010.
