I could have written all night
I could have written all night
And still have written some more
I could have spread my wings
And written a thousand things
I’ve never written before

After most people view the play My Fair Lady, they find themselves singing the play’s most memorable song: “I Could Have Danced All Night.” What most people don’t realize, however, is that the original lyrics to this 1956 classic called for Julie Andrews to sing “I Could Have Written All Night.” Later, however, lyricist Alan Jay Lerner changed the words just before the play’s opening on Broadway because he wanted fewer syllables.

Okay, the previous paragraph is pure fiction, but students at Hudson Valley Community College will have the opportunity to write all night on Thursday, Nov. 19 from 10 p.m. to midnight on the lower level of the Marvin Library.

“Write All Night” is a special program sponsored by The Learning Centers once per semester to give students an extra opportunity to get help on their research papers or other writing assignments. In the past, for instance, some students have used this special session to work on their in-text citations and end-of-paper documentation, while others have used the opportunity to fine tune their introduction, their conclusion, their transitions, and their overall organizational pattern.

A collection of writing specialists will be on hand to read first drafts and offer constructive criticism. In addition, the writing specialists will answer all questions about writing and about documenting sources in various styles such as MLA, APA, or Chicago.
