What exactly is the Office of Institutional Effectiveness?
The Office of Institutional Effectiveness is responsible for assuring that our college meets or exceeds all of the requirements and expectations of SUNY, NY State and Federal governments, our accreditors, our college mission, goals and objectives, and most importantly, our students. There are many such requirements, which can be provided by the office upon request.
What are some examples of such requirements?
One example is the establishment of an Institutional Assessment program, which requires all entities at HVCC to develop plans for improvement and for measurement of results of that improvement. We are also required to establish and maintain an atmosphere of continuous improvement in all that we do at HVCC. These requirements apply not only to the academic performance measures of our students, but also to our non-academic departments, which also develop and submit annual plans for improvement and measurement of success.
How do we know that the plans submitted into Nuventive are properly focused on pre-established Institutional goals, such as the college mission, vision, and the strategic plan?
When each of the departmental plans are entered into the Nuventive system, plan authors are required to relate each of the aspects of their plans to each of the College goals mentioned above. This activity insures that we remain focused on broad college goals and objectives while conducting our day-to-day work of providing the richest educational experience possible for our students.
How does the entire process get measured and documented for the entire campus community?
Each year, an Institutional Effectiveness Report is published, listing all results as well as a list of recommendations for improvement in areas identified as opportunities for greater success. The report is available on the HVCC website under Institutional Effectiveness. All are welcome to review the reports, and direct any questions or comments to any members of the IE office.
