Distance and Online Learning Help Desk – How to Get Help!
In December 2020, the Center for Distance and Online Learning began using the college’s centralized ticketing system. The move helps us track requests, services, incidences, issues, and resolutions, as well as generate reports and statistics for college-wide users.
On Friday, April 16, the email address dlstaff@hvcc.edu was terminated and will no longer work.
How do I request help, support, training, and other things I need from DLHelp?
- Email dlhelp@hvcc.edu and a ticket will be auto-generated, and you will receive a confirmation by email.
- Call (518) 629-7070, and we will create a ticket for you, either from your voicemail or while speaking with you.
- Go to the https://helpdesk.hvcc.edu page and choose the Submit a Ticket button, then Distance and Online Learning, choose Faculty & Staff or Students category, and select the service request.
How do I request help or support during the evenings or weekends?
- Contact SUNY Online Support Services Help Desk at https://online.suny.edu/help/, and open a support request.
- Call 1-844-673-6786 or 1-518-320-1300 (Direct)
Video Capturing and Streaming Service – Call for Volunteers!
TechSmith Knowmia, the video capturing and streaming service you came to love, will be leaving the higher education market. Don’t worry; we will still have Knowmia for at least another year, and we have been looking for a replacement.
We are planning to run trials for two products during the summer 6-week sessions. If you are teaching this summer and would be interested in participating in the trials, please contact Linda K. Ryder at l.ryder@hvcc.edu.
VoiceThread Assignments — All New Design!
VoiceThread has completed a significant overhaul and redesign of the entire assignment experience. They have streamlined the interface, added more controls for instructors, made assignments editable, added a new “student gallery” to easily see classmates’ VoiceThreads, and better feedback workflows for students.
On Tuesday, May 18, we will be switching the entire campus to the new VoiceThread Assignment. If you are preparing for summer classes, you can make the switch now by enabling the new assignment option in those course shells. Follow the How to Transition: Steps for Instructors, or submit a Training Request to work with an Instructional Designer to convert your class.
We will be hosting several training sessions. The dates and times, and registration form are available on the Center for Profession Excellence web page.
Additional Tool Integration Updates
Web Assign
Cengage will be updating the Web Assign platform and integration with Blackboard. The existing integration will be removed from the system on Tuesday, May 18. If you are a Web Assign user and have questions about this transition, please contact your Cengage representative.
MyOpenMath LTI
If you use the MyOpenMath Blackboard integration, there is an updated version, and we will be switching to this update on Tuesday, May 18.
