On Saturday evening, Sept. 27, at approximately 11:30 p.m., Hudson Valley Community College’s Department of Public Safety responded to an altercation outside the McDonough Sports Complex.
At the time, there was a college-sponsored dance in the fieldhouse with approximately 300 people in attendance. Public Safety personnel said that the fight involved two females attempting to enter the dance. While campus security personnel were attempting to settle the dispute, an altercation involving several individuals inside the dance began as well. Because of the number of people attending the dance, additional officers from the Troy Police Department, Rensselaer County Sheriff and the New York State Police were called in to assist.
Both females involved in the altercation are expected to appear in Troy City Court on Tuesday morning on disorderly conduct violations. The college has ascertained that neither individuals are students at the college.
Following the altercations, the dance was immediately suspended. All attendees of the dance left the campus without incident. The college will continue an investigation into the cause of the altercations.
The Troy Record reported on the incident.
