Instructional Designer Mark Petersen contracted to write art history text

Dr. Mark R. Petersen, an instructional designer in the college’s Distance Learning Office and an adjunct faculty member of the Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Broadcast Communications Department, recently signed a contract with Cognella Academic Publishing to write a textbook.  The textbook is tentatively titled Ancient and Medieval Art:  A Thematic Survey, and will be piloted at Hudson Valley Community College as the textbook for Art History Survey I (ARTS 100).  It will also be available for adoption by any college or university that offers this course, and it has a projected publication date of Fall 2015.

In conjunction with the textbook, Dr. Petersen will also create a complete companion course cartridge that will be compatible with Blackboard and other learning management systems. This course cartridge will be designed to be used in tandem with the textbook by instructors who teach Art History Survey I in any modality, whether online, hybrid, or face-to-face.

As part of the contract that Dr. Petersen and Cognella agreed upon, all royalties from the copies of the textbook/course-cartridge bundle that are sold at Hudson Valley Community College will be presented as a gift to the Hudson Valley Community College Foundation, and earmarked for the Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Broadcast Communications Department, where the funds will be used to help underwrite student-related departmental costs, such as student awards and student activities.
