As you know, we are not going to be able to hold an on-campus spring commencement ceremony this year. Although we won’t be able to recognize our graduates in person right now, we want to make sure that we find a way to help faculty and staff celebrate their students’ achievements. To do this, we are compiling a video message from the Hudson Valley community that we hope to include in a live-streamed celebration of the Class of 2020 on Saturday, June 6.
Here’s how you can participate. Record on your mobile device a brief congratulatory message. You can upload your message here.
The more who participate, the more the final video will make a powerful, positive impact.
We are especially interested in collecting messages from faculty members, department chairs and academic support staff who work directly with students.
Here are some simple guidelines to follow:
- Be positive!
- Be brief (15 seconds should be the maximum length of your message)
- Be creative!
- Be horizontal (if recording on your phone, hold it horizontally so all the messages are in the same format)
- Consider your lighting and your background. Lighting from the front works best.
- Feel free to say who you are and what program/office you represent. You don’t have to if you prefer not to.
- Don’t focus on individual students by name, but feel free to focus on students from your department or program
Some sample messages:
- I’m (Name) from the (Department) and I want to congratulate the graduating class from our program. You all worked hard to reach this goal and I’m proud of you. Good luck, graduates!
- To the 2020 graduates of the (Department), good luck as you continue your education or move into a career. Stop back and see us sometime and let us know how you’re doing!
- Hello, 2020 Graduates! I’m here to give you a virtual high five! Congratulations on completing your studies at Hudson Valley and I know you’ll do great things in the future.
Questions? Contact Eric Bryant at e.bryant@hvcc.edu.
We’d like to have these in by Wednesday, May 27. Please take the time to record a message that will tell our graduates that we wish them well!
