John Batsios Memorial Nursing Scholarship

A new Hudson Valley Community College Foundation scholarship was established on March 1 by family and friends to honor the memory of John Batsios, who attended HVCC while serving in the New York National Guard. He graduated in 2016 with an associate’s degree in Nursing. He saved lives working as a traveling registered nurse in many different states. His tragic death occurred on Nov. 6, 2022 as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
John enjoyed taking every advantage life offered. He made lasting friendships with humans and animals alike wherever his adventures took him. He embraced everyone and everything with a passion and an excitement that was contagious. The family feels blessed to have had such a loving, caring, funny son and brother in their lives, and decided to establish a scholarship to help others with military experience begin a career in nursing.
An inaugural $1,000 John Batsios Memorial Nursing Scholarship is planned for the 2023-2024 academic year. The recipient must be enrolled in the Nursing Program (full- or part-time), as well as an active member of the military or a veteran. Nursing students who are the spouse or dependent of an active military member or veteran also are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
Donations to the scholarship fund in memory of John may be made online (https://www.hvcc.edu/giving/online.html) or mailed to the HVCC Foundation, FTZ 131.
