Lansingburgh Historical Society selling historical site ornament

The Lansingburgh Historical Society proudly offers the second in a series of historical site ornaments. This one depicts the Lansingburgh Academy, built in 1820 on the corner of Fourth Avenue and 114th Street. The ornament features the academy in color on a porcelain disc with a gold border.

Chester Arthur, the 21st U.S. President, taught here and Herman Melville attended classes here. Later, it was sold to the Lansingburgh School District, and eventually to the library system and still houses the Lansingburgh Branch of the Troy Public Library. The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1976.

The society’s first ornament was of Herman Melville’s home, built in 1786 on 114th Street and Second Avenue (also featured in color on porcelain). A few of these are still available.

Either ornament comes in a lovely gift box and may be purchased for $15 each.  If mailed, a shipping cost will apply. To purchase, please call (518) 235-3924, (518) 235-0730 or (518) 885-4295.

The proceeds from this sale helps to support the support of the Melville House and the Lansingburgh Historical Society’s educational events.
