Last Call for Photographs: 2nd annual exhibition: Pride of Our Nation… Pride of Our College

2nd Annual “Pride of Our Nation… Pride of Our College” Library Exhibit

On the evening of June 6, 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt led the nation in prayer for the 57,000 American soldiers — the “pride of our nation” — and their fellow allies participating in the invasion of France.

To celebrate this Veterans Day — Nov. 11, 2012 — students, faculty and staff are invited to submit photographs of loved ones or relatives, who served or are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces. These photographs will be on exhibit in the library’s 2nd annual “Pride of Our Nation… Pride of Our College” exhibit from Nov. 10 through Dec. 7 in the Marvin Library Learning Commons.

To participate in this special event, please submit original or scanned photographs to Alice Malavasic, (MRV 110), Department of History, Philosophy, and Social Sciences, no later than Monday, Oct. 15. Photographs submitted and exhibited last year again will be on display along with the new ones. Those who submitted photographs last year may do so again, but priority will be given to first-time submissions.

All submissions must meet the following criteria:

  1. The photograph or photographs must be of a family member or relative in uniform during his or her time of service and include a 5” by 7” typed statement that includes the following information:
    1. Name of the service person and time of service or conflict served in.
    2. Branch of service and any additional information available such as rank, regiment, company, awards and battles fought in.
    3. Your name and relationship to the service person in the photograph. If you are a student please include your major. If you are a member of the faculty or staff please include your department.

We also will accept artifacts along with photographs. Artifacts will be on display in locked cases. If you wish to submit an artifact with your photograph, please contact Alice Malavasic directly via e-mail (a.malavasic@hvcc.edu) or at 629-7697.
