Sandra Hutchison, English adjunct instructor and an indie novelist who has also worked as an acquisitions editor for Prentice Hall, will be presenting two informative sessions on publishing this fall.
Wednesday, Sept. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Sand Lake Town Library in Averill Park, she’ll outline “Three Pathways to Publishing,” covering the basics of traditional publishing, self-publishing, and vanity publishing. Learn what is involved in each, how to match your personal goals with an appropriate path forward, and how to avoid falling prey to scams.
(Note that this session will be helpful for those hoping to publish literary or commercial fiction or nonfiction, not academic writing.)
Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. at the Troy Public Library, she’ll present a session called “Self-Publishing 101,” which will go into more detail about how to pursue that option for maximum success. She’ll cover the myths and realities, some major choices you’ll have to make, some common pitfalls to avoid, basic promotional techniques, and (as before) how to avoid common scams.
Participants at each session will leave with a list of useful resources, and will also have the opportunity to download their choice of a free eBook.
