Learn Where You Earn To Have NYS DOT Site in Spring

The office of Continuing Education, Summer Sessions and Workforce Development has a longstanding working relationship with various New York State agencies and large employers in the area to provide courses through our ‘Learn Where You Earn’ program. For almost a decade we have served the needs of area employees by providing credit-bearing classes in the late afternoon or evening at their place of business.

We are very happy to announce that starting in the Spring 2011 semester, the NYS Department of Transportation (DOT) has, for the first time, agreed to participate in the college’s Learn Where You Earn program. Our meetings with DOT began in May and included critical input from department chairs as well as further discussions with DOT. This culminated with DOT’s final decision in October to offer the ISCI 135 Information Design course during the Spring semester.

The course will be run as a pilot program at DOT’s location on Wolf Road in Albany.

For some participating in the Learn Where You Earn program, employers pay the cost of their employees’ tuition and fees directly to the college. In others cases, the students are able to utilize vouchers or a tuition reimbursement process within their union’s bargaining unit.

We fully expect that this will be a successful collaboration and enable us to provide additional courses in the future.
