Library adds WestlawNext to its repertoire of research databases!

Meet WestlawNext, the Marvin Library’s new legal, news and business database that offers a Google-like interface, simplicity of searching, and a law library unto itself. WestlawNext is primarily a legal research tool which includes case law, statutes, regulations, secondary sources and much more.  Westlaw’s extraordinary enhancements will empower, enhance and streamline your research.

Learn the legendary West Key Number System; see how West’s filter algorithm indicates whether your selected jurisdiction has addressed your subject and whether the cases are still good law; experience West’s encyclopedia-like American Law Reports (ALR) – to name just a few. Legal research has never been so simple, thorough and integrated.

In addition to its vast legal resources, WestlawNext also provides a world news collection with hundreds of news publications from more than 70 countries, and can be your one-stop source of news and business information. You can turn to these national and international news sources when you want the most current information on  companies or subsidiaries, industry trends, foreign political and legal developments, intellectual property news, and more.

Beginning July 1, the Marvin Library subscription to Lexis-Nexis will terminate.

We are confident faculty, students and staff will enjoy and benefit from our new acquisition, WestlawNext and very excited to be able to offer this exceptional resource to the HVCC community!

Training opportunities will be forthcoming and announced in The Chronicle. In the meantime, see our Criminal Justice Subject Guide (http://hvcc.libguides.com/westlaw) for a tutorial on WestlawNext for Criminal Law. Business and News tutorials will be available at the start of fall 2013 semester.

Special thanks to Sue Glaude for her tireless work and expertise in configuring off-campus access to WestlawNext.
