The library is faced with making some cancellations to address a budget shortfall of approximately $9,000 this fiscal year; this is due to a flat materials budget that does not keep pace with annual vendor inflationary price increases. Cancellations are painful but necessary decisions. Factors considered in identifying resources to cancel include low use, availability of similar resources, options for resource sharing (interlibrary loan), and the number of users who may be impacted.
Based on these criteria, the following resources are cancelled, or in one case, will be funded this year from another available source:
- Journal of diagnostic medical sonography
- annual cost $1,350
- cancellation effective January 2023
- resource sharing option addresses annual download frequency
- Swank Digital Campus streaming media collection
- $1,500 savings to reduce subscription from 52 to 40 titles (not a full cancellation)
- effective August 2023
- faculty input on title selection in Spring 2023
- Journal of studies of alcohol and drugs
- annual cost $1,200
- effective January 2023
- numerous other journals with similar content available from other library resources, resource sharing option addresses demand for this specific title
- Science
- $1,950 subscription cost will shift to another funding source; NO cancellation planned
- American Welding Society digital standards library
- annual cost $1,100
- effective Fall 2022
- alternative access available for students per department faculty feedback
- Digital Theatre Plus
- annual cost $1,650
- effective January 2023
- alternative sources available in other streaming media collections
- The remainder will be saved through cancellations of individual, low-use print magazines and/or slightly reduced liaison librarian allocations.
Faculty, deans, or department chairs are encouraged to reach out to me or to their librarian liaison to discuss these decisions or for assistance to identify alternatives.
