Library support staff organize and attend training on support for students with autism

Three library support staff, Lisa Poli, Donna Craver, and Sophia Mehner, attended the Capital Area Library Assistants (CALA) Lunch and Learn program on Nov. 5 at the Capital District Library Council in Albany.

The program featured Janine Kruiswijk, executive director of the Autism Society of the Greater Capital District, as guest speaker. The program included background on the prevalence of autism and practical suggestions for supporting library users with autism. The Dwight Marvin Library will implement a number of suggestions to continue to improve its services for all library users.

Poli is chair of CALA and organized the event. Library staff from seven other academic libraries as well as public libraries attended the event.
