Jill Palmer-Wood’s story:
My family has had Lyme, Bartonella and Babesiousis. We have been exposed by infected ticks, no bulls-eye rashes for us! My son lost over 20 pounds, had chronic intestinal issues, extreme fatigue, swollen glands, stiff neck, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, depression, chest pain with palpitations and the worst for a teenager – missed 11th grade. He got to experience every invasive test known to gastroenterology, all showing an unknown cause. My daughter has been fighting this disease for eight years. We didn’t know what was wrong (nor did her doctors) until two years ago. She missed most of her 8th and 10th classes because she couldn’t get out of bed or eat or walk. She had all of her brothers symptoms plus lightheadedness, pressure in the skull, extreme joint and bone pain, no short term memory, sweats, chills, sore throat, vertigo, dizziness, swollen joints, floaters, depression, mood swings, rage, insomnia, the list actually goes on. I cannot yet talk about what living with this was like for me. Every day for the last few years I woke up and prayed that my children would live… and they have. We are one of the few lucky families, both my children are going to college this fall, I still have employment, we still own our home and we are still all together. I need to help all of the other families still praying every morning not knowing what the day will bring. Many families can no longer work, they cannot afford health insurance (not that insurance covers anything) they are in foreclosure on their homes and some no longer have custody of their children. And yet worse, many have died. Doctor’s need training, we need new testing and new treatments, and insurance company’s need to held accountable.
