Maria Zemantauski, coordinator of the college’s Cultural Affairs Program and an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Digital Media, was recently awarded a New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Artist Grant. The $10,000 award will be used to compose the music for The Wells Project: Slipping Into One.
The Wells Project: Slipping Into One is a collaboration involving Zemantauski, the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company, internationally-acclaimed sculptors John Van Alstine and Caroline Ramersdorfer, musician Brian Melick, and award-winning filmmaker Bat-Sheva Guez.
Zemantauski is a nylon-string guitarist and composer whose style is influenced by a variety of musical genres, most notably, Spanish classical, flamenco and American fingerstyle. She performs extensively throughout the Capital Region and beyond, either solo or with other guitarists and musicians. She has performed in Spain, Italy and across the continental United States. Her five CD releases have received stellar reviews from music critics around the world.
