For nearly a decade, the college has used the Merit software platform to disseminate achievements such as scholarships, academic awards and dean’s and president’s lists. Posting these achievements using Merit allows us to get “hometown news” out to local media easily and efficiently. It also allows the students who are honored to share their accolades on their own social media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
Students can also build their own personal Merit pages, which showcase all of the achievements they have earned at the college. They can add work experience and other accolades to create an “online resume” to assist with career or college transfer goals.
The college’s Communications and Marketing office oversees all of the achievements we promote through Merit, but there is a way for departments or individual faculty members to suggest student achievements that we may miss or that may apply to just one or two students.
We encourage you to use the Suggest a Merit Update form if you would like to contribute a student accomplishment.
Some ideas?
- an internship or service learning project
- leadership in a student or departmental club or activity
- academic honor societies, in addition to PTK
- study abroad
Those are just a few examples and I’d be happy to discuss other ideas. If you have any questions, please contact me at (518) 629-8072 or e.bryant@hvcc.edu.
