Middle States Mardi Gras

We celebrate Mardi Gras today — which is French for “Fat Tuesday.” A festive day which precedes 40 days of preparation and focus. The earliest reference to Mardi Gras “Carnival” appears in a 1781 report to the Spanish colonial governing body. That year, the Perseverance Benevolent & Mutual Aid Association was formed in New Orleans. Hundreds of cities commemorate it, but there is something distinctive about Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

Consider the parallels between HVCC and Mardi Gras which shout out to the keen observer. Both honor tradition. Most importantly both are reinvigorated by new people experiencing it for the first time, while those who are responsible strive for continuous improvement. More than 25 colleges are in the capital region, but there is something distinctive about taking classes at HVCC.

We also are persevering; coming to the mutual aid of our associates as we provide transformative, student-centered and high-quality educational opportunities that address the diverse needs of local and global communities.

“Laissez les bons temps rouler”

(loosely translated: “join a working group and have a great time”)
