NCBI Controversial Issues Workshop

The Office of the President, the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Development, and the Student Senate

presents:

Controversial Issues Process

Saturday, Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Siek Campus Center Exhibition Room (2nd Floor)

The “Controversial Issues Process” (Conflict Resolution) Workshop helps individuals and groups move hotly contested issues forward by teaching a set of skills that are essential for effective conflict resolution, listening first to the heartfelt concerns on all sides and then reframing the debate in a way that builds bridges.

Using the NCBI coalition-building model, leaders work with and teach conflicting groups to:

– Listen to and understand all sides of the dispute

– Find common ground

– Reframe the issue in a way that takes all sides into consideration

– Develop concrete solutions through productive discussion

Situations in which these teachable skills can be used:

– Disagreement

– Conflict

– Heated debate

– Basic misunderstandings

Lunch will be provided. Seating is limited to 50 participants.
