NEATEC to participate in New York STEAM Girls Collaborative Saturday at TEC-SMART

The Northeast Advanced Technological Education Center (NEATEC), based on Hudson Valley’s campus, will host two hands-on activities at the New York Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (NY STEAM) Girls Collaborative Kickoff Conference on Saturday, Oct. 25, at TEC-SMART.

The conference runs from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. It will promote collaboration and improved communication among educators, STEM professionals and organizations committed to informing and motivating girls to pursue careers in STEM.

NEATEC’s activities will feature a demonstration of how small a nanoscale is and will showcase the hydrophobic and hydrophilic materials that we use in our everyday lives.

NEATEC was organized at Hudson Valley in 2010, with funding from the National Science Foundation, to promote STEM and technology education throughout the Northeast and to assist in the development of a skilled technical workforce for the semiconductor and nanotechnology industries. The center is a member of the Girls’ Collaborative board of directors and provides mentors to girls interested in exploring math and science.

Saturday’s event is sponsored by the University at Albany/Informatics Department, New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and Hudson Valley Community College.
