New college worker position

 

Orientation Leader

This is a newly-developed college worker position that will be a great opportunity for many students. Please share with students that you feel would be a good fit. Attached is a link to the application. Completed applications should be returned to the Center for Careers and Employment, CTR 270.

Minimum qualifications:
This position will assist Hudson Valley Community College staff with implementation of New Student Orientation and Parent Orientation days. The hours for this position will range from four to 18 hours of work per week, and requires some evening and weekend hours. Orientation sessions will begin in early April 2015 and run through mid-August 2015, and resume in the fall semester with a lighter schedule. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and some Saturdays.

Applicants must be a currently enrolled Hudson Valley Community College student in good academic standing (minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 must be maintained throughout the semester, including midterms). Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required for this position, as well as a comfort level working with microcomputers and a familiarity with WIReD. Applicants must be comfortable speaking in front of small and large groups of people. Training will be provided.

Preferred qualifications:
Preferred candidates will be involved in Hudson Valley student government, a club, sport or other extracurricular activities on campus.

Job duties:
Orientation Leaders will assist with all aspects of Orientation, which will include the following:

  • Professionally welcome and greeting Orientation attendees;
  • Provide testament to attendees about positive experiences as a student at HVCC;
  • Assist attendees with navigating WIReD, including but not limited to steps to enroll, finding and entering courses for a schedule, and the degree audit;
  • Provide tours of campus;
  • Move light furniture and rearrange room setup;
  • Provide attendees with assistance and instructions as necessary;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
